Best anxiety book ever Thanks to Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.I didn't think there could be a self help book better than The Life Changing Magic of not giving a F.... but I believe Calm the F Down will be even more life changing for me. As I've been reading this book I've been putting the principles into practice and it has literally been life changing. I am a very anxious/stressed out person that should buy stock in ostriching (read the book to find out what I'm talking about), and this book gave me an easy way to deal with this. Not to mention Sarah does a fantastic job at writing thoroughly entertaining and engaging self help with laugh out loud humor sprinkled into the mix.If you or someone you know has issues with anxiety, stress, and/or freaking out then this is the holy grail of books. I'd go as far as to say this should be taught in high school and/or college. If you are still reading this review then you should probably just buy the book already.

It's thorough, unpretentious, fun to read and browse, and extremely informative. You get a sense of commonalities and differences that distinguish whiskies as well as the history (which turns out to be surprisingly short) that gives us the very high complexity, diversity, and richness that whiskey lovers can enjoy around the world today.The treatment is as specific as an academic study, yet Mr. Benson's personality and writing style are so engaging that you feel like you're getting a personal distillery tour. You learn about techniques and factors that affect the product. When you are done, you can make a strategy for exploring what's available so you can find your favorites. (Hint: What you will like the best might not be the oldest or most expensive.) What a terrific resource!Covers a little bit of everything as goes grain-based spirits. Well written. Lots of information You can't taste whiskey without tasting it! That being said, this was a great and well organized review of the flavors to be found in whiskey (distilled spirits made from grain of one kind or another), the wide variety of whiskeys in the world, how one distinguishes between whiskeys of a type, and some history. The style was easy going, sort of makes you feel like sitting back and enjoying a bourbon, scotch, or rye while you read along.I was fortunate to meet Lew Bryson at a whiskey dinner which ... TASTING WHISKEY is a most phenomenal and interesting book. I got a fabulous education reading it. I was fortunate to meet Lew Bryson at a whiskey dinner which he organized and conducted at the Bulls Head Pub in Lititz, PA shortly after I had bought his book. Needless to say I was very excited to know he would be there! Tasting Whiskey is extremely well-researched and detailed. It was one of the most enjoyable books I have read in quite some time. His personal stories and experiences are just nonstop and funny! It was entertaining from beginning to end, and I savored every moment I sat down with it. I believe at times I would only read just a few pages so as to make it last longer. Many times I laughed out loud! The book is very well illustrated with most interesting photographs throughout as well!I am not an experienced whiskey drinker buy any means but have occasionally enjoyed a good aged Scotch or Irish whisky for quite a few years; usually preferring the older Scotch whiskeys because they were supposedly "better" ones. I learned from reading TW to not be a 'whiskey snob' and just drink the more expensive old, more aged ones, but to keep an open mind and experience the many other less expensive and younger ones out there. Just two nights ago I tried a fairly new whiskey from Ireland from West Cork Distilleries; a relatively inexpensive blended whisky (not the 10 year single malt) and it was quite good! The bar tender opened a brand new bottle for me. At Lew's whiskey dinner which I attended, all 5 pairings with the food were with American Bourbons and whiskeys. They were all delicious!!The whiskey making process is most complicated, and I now have a much more appreciation and understanding about the many aspects of the making, blending, storage, evaporation, whiskey strengths, barrel sizes, the effects of weather & temperature, collecting, making cocktails and on and on. I truly don't think there is much more you could fit in to a book about whiskey. Lew has been around the country and the world tasting fabulous whiskeys and meeting and getting to know distillers. It's a history book, a technical book and a story book! Anyone who has any interest in whiskey should not be without this book! Congratulations Lew Bryson!!!

ok okGood The book passes all of my personal requirements for a good book. Let me share them with you. Believe it or not, we all judge a book by its cover. I speak of the broader category which I call "appearance". The cover graphics are interesting, but so are the graphics throughout the book. Text is in double, sometimes triple columns, which makes reading easier. There is a good mix of graphs, charts, and photographs to accompany the text, and the color scheme is meaningful. The color scheme applies overall, but particularly to text that draws our attention, like headers and such. The effective use of colors assists the reader in digesting the material in an orderly way.Finally, and most importantly, is the content. The information is factual as opposed to opinionated. Finally, the writing style is matter of fact, but not boring. If you are interested in Sociology, this book is a good start and should keep you turning the pages.This was a readable, interesting, and RELEVANT text on sociology. Wow. The thing that jumps out at me about this book is the cutting edge nature of the examples used. This is a 2018 text, and there is a great focus on local and global events happening in 2016-17.Essentials of Sociology, by George Ritzer and Wendy Wiedenhoft Murphy, was something I really needed to read. I teach a university course that has one module dealing with the sociology of natural resources, but I've never had a formal course in sociology. Luckily, other texts, lectures, and colleagues have pulled me through here. Now, I can say that I've read a sociology text cover to cover. The cutting edge focus of this Ritzer and Murphy text (this is the 3rd edition) made it relevant, easy to read and follow, and... did I say relevant?As I finished the book today at my local coffee house, I found myself discussing with a friend who stopped by the concept of the "voluntariat" (p. 40). I will incorporate in my course more discussion of how smart devices are transforming society's views toward natural resource management. This afternoon, I'll observe "bigorexia" at the gym (p. 353).Unless I missed it, there was an obvious omission of school and mass shootings, or gun control. That was surprising.All in all, this was a readable, interesting, and RELEVANT text on sociology.

More than just a hockey romance In general I enjoy sports romance, and I favor hockey romance the most. One of my favorite hockey romance authors is Sarina Bowen. The Brooklyn Bruisers is a fun hockey romance series, and Sarina Bowen's latest, Overnight Sensation, is so much fun! There is hockey, there are hot hockey players, and there are wonderfully strong women characters! Jason Castro is definitely a hot alpha hockey player, and a player in general! Actually, he's a nice guy who doesn't want a relationship. Heidi, is a determined young woman, working in the Bruisers organization to try to prove her worth to her father. Jason sees Heidi as just another intern - but an attractive, funny young woman. They've gotten to know each somewhat, and are definitely attracted to each other. Now the story gets interesting, as we learn more about Jason and Heidi, and they get to know each other MUCH better. As we enjoy the story, we also get to enjoy the hockey (a win-win for us).I love that Heidi is a such a strong, determined young woman, even though she has some issues and some growing to do (don't we all). Jason also brings his complications to deal with (thus the story), but I like that he's a nice guy. A strong cast of supporting characters, many of whom we already know well, adds to the story. I'm hoping to see more of these characters in future books, especially Silas - he has so much potential as the lead in his own story!I highly recommend this book.So good!! LOVED this book!!! Heidi Jo might be my favorite heroine from this series. The girl is fierce and funny and knows her hockey!! Castro is beautifully broken and ridiculously smart and you just can’t help but root for him. His friendship with Silas is definitely a highlight of the book and I absolutely loved the way Heidi just fit with them. I can’t wait to see what the three of them get into in the future :)Favorite Quotes:“She’s still talking about the game, and I’m distracted by the way her voice vibrates through my soul.”“At the top of the steps she tugs on the handle of her giant suitcase, barely clearing the ground before she yanks it down a stair. I have only been reading Sarina Bowen's work for about a year now but she has quickly become an author that I trust to deliver great romances and she totally delivered with this book. This book is the fifth book in the Brooklyn Bruisers series but it was the first book from the series that I have read and it worked well on its own. Of course, now I am ready to go back and get the other books read since I liked this one so much.This story is all about Heidi and Jason. Heidi, an intern, lets her inhibitions go for one night and wants to hook up with the team's sexy hockey player, Jason. Unfortunately, she has way too much to drink and ends up sleeping it off at his house instead. It wouldn't be a big deal except for the photo of them together that is making the rounds and the fact that Heidi is actually the commissioner's daughter. As the pair spends more and more time with each other, they decide that they just can't stay away from each other.Heidi and Jason were both great characters. Heidi has lived a rather sheltered and spoiled life. She knows this but she also isn't afraid of hard work. I liked how she was willing to do what was needed to get what she wants. It seemed that no matter how terrible the job was she approached it with the best attitude possible. Jason doesn't do relationships and hasn't for a long time. He is more of a one night stand kind of guy but he wants more with Heidi. It was great learning about Jason's past and finding out what he was really thinking.I loved these two together! They just seemed to fit perfectly together. They had fantastic chemistry with each other and there are quite a few sexy moments in the story. I liked the way that he looked out for her and vice versa. They both showed that they were willing to stand up for each other and just be there for support when necessary. It does take Jason some time to completely open up to Heidi about his past but I liked watching them work through everything.I would highly recommend this book to others. This was a great romance with fantastic characters. I loved the fact that there was quite a bit of hockey worked into the story and the side characters were just as great as Jason and Heidi. I ended up reading this entire book in a single day because I literally could not put it down. I cannot wait to read more from this amazing author!I received a digital review copy of this book from the author/publicist.

My copy arrived electronically at 12:03 this morning. I have not finished it, but I love this book so far! Edith Windsor and her wonderful spouse Thea Spyer put faces and hearts on the movement to legalize marriage equality. Roberta Kaplan is the smart, hardworking, courageous lawyer who fought for legal recognition of their Canadian marriage and the end of the Defense of Marriage Act before the United States Supreme Court and WON! How brilliant to frame the question as one about estate taxation!!!! I will buy this in hardback for signatures of my heroes Robbie and Edie when they visit a bookstore near me. In the meantime, READ THIS BOOK! And be grateful for lawyers like Roberta Kaplan!

I got a sneak peak of this manuscript this summer and now have my hands on my own hard copy. This is an incredible blend of legal procedure and personal story, a groundbreaking version of memoir. In as much as Edie Windsor is lesbian celebrity, it almost appeals to the voyeur–we learn so much more about her love and life. But, equally compelling, we also learn about Roberta Kaplan and how her mind worked in this, the most important case yet for her. We meet their friends and their colleagues, their hopes and their fears, their challenges and their breaks. This first-hand account of one of the most important cases of our times is as compelling as it is readable. Every lgbtqia person needs this in her library. Every legal scholar will enjoy the inside view of the arguments. Every library needs this own its shelf. This is how great love stories should be told.

My eagerly awaited copy came two days ago. As of this morning I’m ninety pages in and, though other obligations call, I am finding it harder and harder to this book down. Then Comes Marriage makes it easy for those of us whose post-graduate work did not involve law school to understand complex legal issues.
