She is going to help her mother with her father, but she just might get more than she was planning Her mother needs help because Esperanza's (Espie) father was injured, so she has decided to come home. Espie can hardly believe her eyes, when she sees the place where her mother works, when she is driving past it to get where her mother lives, it's a gorgeous mansion. Espie meets the cute little girl Nicolletta (Nikki) who was wandering around the grounds, when her Nanny doesn't show up, and looks after her, not knowing that she is Alec's daughter (the man who owns the mansion). Espie isn't afraid to let Alec know what she thinks about that, when he gets upset with finding her in his house. Alec ends up getting Espie to look after Nikki, but how long can Alec resist his attraction to the fiery and protective Espie? I loved Espie who's heart is in the right place, and wants to protect those she lets in it, she can be quite fiery and sassy to Alec (which I loved). Alec is generous to those he employees, but he kind of lost the light in his life a bit when he lost his wife, and he seems to come back to life when Espie walks into his life. I loved the emotional romantic tale of Espie and Alec, and how they helped each other heal.I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.Two who have lost so much. Could they hold the key to happiness? I enjoyed this book emmensly. The characters were well defined and described so that the reader got a visual image of them as well. While Alec and Esperanza (Espie) were the main players, along with Nikki, the secondaries were crutial to keeping the story moving as well. Once the drama began unfolding (midway through 1st chapter), it never really stopped and kept me wanting to know what happened next. Alec was a widower who lost his wife to an anurism 2 yrs prior. He shut himself off from everything, including his daughter who reminded him so much of his late wife. Espie came to help with her father, who had broken his back, and ended up being a nanny for Alec/Nikki. She finds his coldness insufferable, until she learns where it stems from. Having lost her younger sister, she can empathize. Their relationship strengthens, but Espie continues to run from her feelings. Will she face how she feels for Alec? Will he be able to let his late wife go, and allow himself to love again? Or is love just not in the cards for these kindred spirits?
